Spirituality and Mysticism
Most of us have a dual perspective on life. On the one hand, we simply make all things we must do every day to work, eat, play. . . . But on another level, we hope there is more to life, something that feels profoundly true, a goal worthy of any effort, a large global project. This hope is usually relegated to the background, because it is so strongly discouraged by the materialistic values that prevail in our culture.
But suppose we do not want merely a materialism that blunts our vitality. We could seek wisdom in traditional religion, or self-knowledge in psychology and brain function, but they are not high enough. Could turn to science in hopes of unraveling the secrets of the universe and providing for the material welfare of all, but they, too, are ultimately unsatisfactory. Where, then, are we to find what we want? Nasrudin, the legendary East-East joker sage, asking the same question:
It is 4:00 AM Nasrudin left the tavern and walks the town aimlessly. A cop pulls. AWhy you wandering the streets at midnight? @ "Sir" Nasrudin replied, "if I knew the answer to this question, I would have been hours ago Home!"
To find this that we want, we must dig deeper. We must discern the essence of spirituality, we must see what is beyond the psychology and the functioning brain, we must see what physics can tell us about the nature of existence.
And we must go, until we have such a view Overall we can see that the connections between mind, brain, and physics, and finally see the structure of all existence. When you can see, and when we can begin to see why there has been established, then we find a goal worthy of any effort.
Physics and Nonphysical
The key question, at least at the beginning of our research is the nature of existence, the existence of man in particular. In this scientific age, we are led to believe that existence is purely physical. If so, then it seems to me that life is indeed full of sound and fury but signifies nothing. However, as we shall see, science does not mean that existence is purely physical. In fact, one of the themes fundamentals of this book is that our existence on this earth is both physical and non physical aspects. The division is strong, but the two are closely linked in life. Strange as it seems at first, we'll get is this division that leads to a unified view of existence, a view which will enable us to make deep sense of satisfaction of our lives.
These two aspects of life were explored by methods very different disciplines. The experimental sampling and mathematical description of the physical aspects of the province of physics, while the study and experience of non-physical aspects of existence are the provinces of mysticism. spirituality or mysticism, in its various forms is the core of all religions. The mystic who strives earnestly hopes there is a non-physical aspect of existence in which the goals worthy of our lives can be found. One goal of this book is that hope by showing that science is not opposed to mysticism, and delineating the basis of mysticism in a clear and useful.
Note: The term "spirituality" and "mystical" are used almost interchangeably in this book. But spirituality involves generally oriented closer to major religions, while mysticism is meant to study and experience of non-physical existence in all its forms, including phenomena such as mind reading. In the absence of a better word, the word "mystic" is used here both for those on a more spiritual and those who have a more "mystical" way.
Quantum mechanics as the bridge of the mystical
If the non-physical aspect of existence is to be of interest or use to us, then there must be a link between our physical world and the world not familiar physics. The very important bridge-between the two lies in quantum mechanics, the theory that physicists use to describe mathematically the physical universe. (Be assured that you will not need to understand anything about mathematics to read this book, nor do you require any prior knowledge of physics.) Physicists have a high degree of confidence in quantum mechanics, because it gives a very high accuracy, broad and unified description of nature.
Quantum mechanics, however, has an amazing "defects". Although an accurate description of physical reality, its mathematical means that there are many versions of reality that exist simultaneously, rather than there being only the only reality that we perceive actually. For example, we shall see in Chapter 8 that the mathematical quantum mechanics seems to allow the Schrödinger cat both dead and alive at the same time. To get around this flaw, "" most Physicists assume that quantum mechanics is an incomplete theory of the physical universe and must be complemented by the existence presumed particle-electrons, atoms and so on to become comprehensive. We show, however, that there is no evidence of Particles and convincing evidence that it can not be particles. In this case, quantum mechanics strongly implies there must be a non-physical aspect to life!
In addition, quantum mechanics tells us something about the nonphysical aspects of life. It implies that each us, in addition to having a brain and the physical body, also has a non-physical mind (or soul or traditional language of consciousness in the language principle Buddhist). Your mind is not physical, due to its connection with your physical brain, can freely and wisely choose your thoughts and your actions. Is the bridge between the physical and non physical existence.
The split within us that I stress a physical brain and body non-physical Mind-gives an existence dualistic. This may seem jarring in a book on spirituality, where one might expect unity and interdependence of all things being said. But if it is true that in the end of duality disappears, the journey toward the full experience of this unit is long. And Road, especially at the beginning, the structure of existence is made more clear, both conceptually and experimentally, if one insists on the dual nature existence. This view is also compatible with dual duality that no great of us can escape to the difference between physical existence we experience in life, and non-physical existence that we experience after death.
WHAT Form of spirituality or mysticism?
There are many categories and types of mystics, healers, mediums Whirling Dervishes of the Dalai Lama to rishis living in caves in the Himalayas. And there are different systems of spirituality that have been developed over hundreds or even thousands of years in these religions Hinduism, Buddhism, Sufism, some branches of Christianity and Judaism, and so on (although most of these systems contain historical accretions and vital spirituality).
I will use the system is based on a modern form of Sufi mysticism that incorporates the wisdom of other systems, but it is modified to be compatible with the ideas we learned from the physics and neuroscience. Sufism is an ancient way of knowing that does not correspond exactly to one of the most known religions. It could be described as the religion of experience. The Sufis, ideally, are precisely those who understand and experience all levels of existence, especially those associated with the deepest emotions. A more traditional definition of Sufism is that it is the mystical, the esoteric branch of Islam, a branch that began with Muhammad's cousin and son-Ali, flourished in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, and continues today.
It is my hope that making the mystical spirituality compatible with science does it specify if it is both accessible and attractive to many more people than it has been in the past. Indeed, despite the tendency of our materialistic society, I think it an advantage for the mystic who aspire to live in the era of science, because, as we shall see, the physics can help clarify the metaphysical structure of existence, and neuroscience can help distinguish between brain-body effects of physical and non physical ideas, and understanding of spiritual practices.
BELIEF Versus Experience
If you are not familiar with the mystical point of view, it may appear as a simple system of beliefs. But if you feel it might be correct if you think these ideas could serve as a useful guide for a certain period your life and if you do mystic practices with full attention on them, so I think you begin to see the mystical point of view = s existence may be lived, rather than being simply a belief system. You can begin to assess the possibility that awareness does not stop not with death. And you can begin to see that the potential exists for a radically different, much richer life here.
Where can I find information about the source of the mystical interpretation of Payot on the brain before?
I read several locations on why Jews increase their payot / decks sometimes giving the same information regurgitated: "From the point of view Mystical Payot was believed to separate the front part of the brain used for abstract thought, the rear part of the brain that governs the organization. "Where it come from? I would like more information on this as possible.
with all my respect … did you try using the search engine of this sentence? I made and received 2 links: http://wapedia.mobi/en/Payot http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Payot we hope they will be helpful
