Statues of Buddha – What are the meanings of different types of statues of Buddha?

Buddha statues illustrate "Buddharupas" which represent teachings of Buddha. The path of enlightenment to reach Nirvana is the ultimate goal of Buddhism. Buddha is one who has learned the truth of nature and enlightened me. Buddha is simply a man who has suffered a serious spiritual change.

A statue of Buddha himself is the symbol of science sacred, which are represented in almost all parts of the figure. Unknown to many of each physical element of the Buddha rupa symbolizes education Buddha.

Different positions of Buddha statues and their meanings.

There are several Rupas Buddha in different positions primarily in sitting, standing and lying down.

A statue of Buddha seated on popular lotus flower is the Buddha meditating under a form called mudra Dhyana. In this position, Buddha is regarded as having the legs crossed with different types of hand Dhyana mudra gestures.The represents the state of meditation or meditation practice viapassana which is the ultimate way to achieve enlightenment called Nirvana.

Different types of Buddhas are seated Shakyamuni Buddha, Dhyani Buddhas (Amitabha Amoghsiddhi, Akshobhya, Vairochana, Ratna Sambhava), Vajrasattva, Green Tara, White Tara, Manjushri, Kharcheri, Kubera, Padmasambhava, Vajradhara, Vasundhara, etc.

A popular standing Buddha holds a bowl of rice Patra, a side arises from a palm outward in front of his chest blessing. The examples are Avalokiteshvara, the Buddha Dipankar, Dancing Tara Hayvajra, Heruka Vajrayogini Megha Samvara, Vajravarahi, Vajrapani, Vajrakilla, Ekjata, Chakrasamvara, etc.

The reclining Buddha represents the disappearance and Nirvana.

Here are some of the main hand gestures or mudras sitting or standing posture can be

1. Meditation Mudra – Amitabha – Here, a palm is placed on top of another. with both palms facing up.

2. Privacy Mudra – Ratna Sambhava – right hand is raised with the palm facing outside

3. Teaching Mudra – Vairochana – both hands in front of chest, palms outward.

4. Enlightened Mudra – Shakyamuni Buddha – the enlightened right hand down with a finger touching the earth is the earth as a witness to his enlightenment.

5. Blessing Mudra – Amoghasiddhi – right under the palm outward
