How to tell if my pumpkin is ready to be picked?

I have an Atlantic Giant pumpkin which I planted at the very beginning of December. The largest fruit has stopped getting larger and is turning orange. I want to know if/when the pumpkin should be removed from the vine, or if it just falls off, or what.

The vines will start to dry. Pumpkins can be left on the vine until the whole plant is dead. Since Atlantic Giant are not really for eating but grown for maximum weight once the leaves start to die they are as big as they will get. Keep it cool and out of the Sun until weigh in time to prevent weight loss from drying.
