In the two decades since Nick Cave (with multi-instrumentalist Mick Harvey, who co-ordinated this anthology) bolted the beloved chaos of his native Melbourne’s Birthday Party to focus on a solo career informed in equal parts by Poe, Flannery O’Connor and Biblical goth-chic, he and the Bad Seeds have explored enough musical detours and career side projects to yield the 56 tracks that grace this set…

Harry Belafonte – All Time Greatest Hits, Vol. 1

Calypso King Harry Belafonte will always be known for his smooth voice and island-infused music. All Time Greatest Hits, Vol. I would not be complete without Belafonte’s signature piece, the tropical work song “Day O.” Its lasting appeal has probably been because of its place in music history as a cultural reference point, but it is also a wonderful showcase for the control Belafonte had over his …

Maps old and rare maps as investment

One of the most common questions our customers ask us is what my raise rare card old value? When people ask me these questions, I usually answer "Yes, but it is a long term position." A higher response Overall requires a deeper understanding of trade in specific rare card and the vicissitudes of the trade in antiquities in general. While it is easy draw auction results or values for specific card catalog retailer, this analytical approach does not take into account a number of factors important, such as the state vectors of restoration, colorization factors, etc. It also fails to take into account various factors ranging from the economy periods of vogue for some items.

Antiques in general, are unique in the realm of speculation in the art. The work of a broker is to find and identify an item that can be acquired at a reasonable price, retained for a period of time, and then sold to a price significantly higher. In doing so, the distributor looks for pieces that may be undervalued by analyzing buying trends, its clientele, particular availability of similar pieces on the market, the overall business activity at a given time, the historical importance of the issue, and Finally, perhaps most importantly, makes an aesthetic judgments.

Like many companies, trade in rare maps and old has a way its own. Some cards and regions in vogue and fashion frequently. In the 70's and 80 cards of Texas has become extremely desirable for pushing prices this matter well beyond similar cards of similar areas. Today, maps of Texas are still highly desirable, but the bubble has burst and rising prices in general are no longer 80. In fact, some cards Texas decreased slightly in value since the height of their opportunity.

Today, maps of cities in China and India are experiencing a price bubble similar to those rich collectors in Beijing, Shanghai, Bombay and Delhi into the global marketplace. The toughness of price charts of these areas is still very concerned. Although now highly desirable, one can only speculate how global economic factors and general trends of interest will affect this market. As an investor award sense, an investor would have been wise old map to observe the rapid growth of Asian economies and recognize an opportunity. Such an investor could tear up those cards a decade ago when they were both common and easy to acquire and sell them at a profit today high. We could see a similar opportunity today regarding the maps of Russia, who are just beginning to see dramatic increase in interest.

Many antique map dealers who specialize in particular parts of the world control much higher than the average prices of their target cards. Brokers based in places like Hawaii or New York must work tirelessly to keep their large stock fresh local resident for collectors ardent and tourism market. These dealers, faced with limited availability, often no other choice but to buy their equipment to high prices and resell them at a price even higher. Despite their higher price, these brokers are often the suppliers of their assets of the special cards and perhaps the only resource for the amateur interested. From an investment point of view, there is still much room for profit high, especially as regards the rarest of these cards. In some cases, a collector can even sell their cards at the dealer that originally they sells at a big profit! However, to be fair, this is likely to hold a card for multiple years.

There are also peaks market price of the old and rare card. Some years ago I was bidding on a map of Ortelius Iceland in a house auction in New York City. This card is a superb example of classic 16th century cartography and many curious features sea monsters. Nevertheless, although interesting to watch, this card did not historically sold at high prices because Iceland was simply not a warm place for collectors. The auction estimate was U.S. $ 2000-2500, I was ready to go to 2500 USD. The Card finally sold for $ 10,000. In a few days dealers, knowing that the card would be difficult to replace the old price, update their Prices on this card from 4.000 to 6.000 USD 11,000 USD 13,000. Today prices have fallen from this high point and this map is now be acquired at 5000-9000 USD in some galleries.

Generally speaking, cards that are less frequent are better investments. Of Many cards are very popular because of their historical or aesthetic value and keep prices high despite being commonly compatible (obviously This is a relative term) available. These cards will increase in value over time, but the number of pieces on the market keeps rising prices slow and steady. These cards are unlikely to peak in value or increase dramatically in the short term. Single or card type, however, may require premium and will almost inevitably increase in value dramatically over relatively short time. Many dealers on the acquisition these maps are at a loss regarding how to price. Without a history of sales, the dealer must rely on his own experience, personal aesthetic and a historical evaluation of the map to determine its value. Even so, a collector of investment can often safely acquire such a piece with the hope of a substantial increase in value over time.

And then, of course, there is the economy. More Increasingly, investors disappointed by Wall Street, look to the art market as a stable refuge circus stock disorientingly erratic. While questions economic might reduce the overall quantity of cards sold and significantly affect the values auction, most dealers and collectors buy their goods with the understanding they may have to hold their shares for several years before selling. What does this mean for buyers is that the economy does not significantly affect the map of values old and rare at the gallery. However, not significantly impact the values of auction. The current recession has been difficult for many auction houses, whose profits come a rapid rotation of a number of objects rather than the appreciation in a timely manner. It also creates an opportunity for prudent investor to snatch up rare finds at great prices.

Even so, it tends to be only most ardent and devoted collectors who can win in a sales room. Many collectors are attracted to showrooms by the possibility of acquiring valuable maps in a fraction of retail prices. This is, alas, too, where many collectors are their biggest mistakes of purchase. Succeed in room auction was luck or incredible knowledge of all aspects of trade in antiquities. Many antique dealers, including us, to act as advisers to auction and often offer their customers – in this card collectors are recorded so make mistakes and overpaying on dramatic elements that is false, too expensive, or contrary to accumulate value. Even with the recovery costs for this service by various dealers, it tends to be a very good value long term.

In conclusion, the answer to the question: "My increase in card value? "Is" Yes, he will. "Generally, investors should plan on the card holding their purchases for a decade to ensure a significant increase value. Those interested in cards that investments should also seriously consider developing a relationship with a good dealer who can help direct their interests and avoid the many pitfalls to raising successful investment in rare antique maps.
