I need to make a cake shaped unusual?

I need to make a globe-shaped (spherical) cake for a credit additional project in my chemistry class. I love making cakes, but I'm at a complete loss of how to make it. I studied the possibility of such cakes round 6 of the stack, then cut a ball off him, but I also want to know any other options that could be easier and look better. Help?
