have you ever heard of a tooth moving after a filling?
I had a filling put between 2 upper back teeth a few yrs ago & now one tooth is totally crooked. They had to hold the teeth apart? for a long time while putting the filling in. (I had braces & retainers & headgear over a period of 10 yrs, so it shouln’t have moved). I asked the original dentist who filled it, & the one I go to now, & both said it was not the dentists fault. Also, are white fillings better than silver?
A simple filling can changes the way you bites and cause untold agony for you. If the filling is not properly done (too high, open margin) or the filling came out due to caries and tooth is broken for a long period of time, your physiologic teeth occlusion will cause your one or a few teeth move. Let me explain what occlusion is: a relationship of the upper and lower teeth when you “bite”. So even if your had braces and retainers, your teeth will still move thanks to a simple bad filling.
There are two major types of filling materials; silver (amalgam), tooth color filling (composite). Silver Amalgam was the most commonly used material in the restoration of decayed teeth. They are incredibly durable, not likely to break, and last a LONG time, but due to its mercury content and the silver color, most patients prefer the tooth color filling. The problem with the tooth color filling (composite) are that they are not as wear resistant as amalgam restorations. They are more technique sensitive than amalgam, and there is a tendency for more prolonged tooth sensitivity to cold after the restoration is done.
