Story writing with your child – How to accelerate learning using Chunking
Writing a story is a difficult task, even for authors. There are characters to create, deliver the dialogue, plot plan, to capture scenes of tension, endings and began to invent to sizzle so that they superglue your player on a chair.
Then you must put it all into interesting phrases that circulate freely. Phew! Breaking the complex process of writing songs is to help children with their writing more effective – and more fun too.
Two "Blocks", you can try to help your child to write with more impact.
Show, Do not Tell
As we read words and images form in our mind. See what happens when you slowly read the lines below: –
* Snow sparkles, thick and white on top of a mountain.
* Orange and yellow poppies stand tall and happy in a vase.
Our job is to create writers of these images in the brain our readers. This Show, Do not Tell is all about.
However, how can we do when the idea is more abstract – Emotions like? It's much more difficult for children to write as there is no comparison. Therefore we need to show them how to create one. For example: –
Say: My brother is lazy.
SHOW: "Your turn for the dishes of the tank," said Mom.
"Yes, more Later, he said, yawning, and raised the television louder.
"Not now," said Mom. It is at the door, arms crossed. She knew Later in the spirit of the reservoir meant somewhere between 2012 and infinity. Once, as punishment, Mom put all the dishes and pans Tank had left on top of his bed. Just dumped them on the ground. A week later they were still there, a shoe in spaghetti sauce, sweat socks on the plates and smell very bad at Transporting the door.
Ah, now we have the image of our minds. It is much longer to write – but as viewers, we are much more convinced.
How to write scenes of tension
Imagine a birthday party a top restaurant, friends and family – and a massive earthquake that ends in disaster.
Here is the starting point of a boy of 9 years:
We had fun in the restaurant when suddenly the ground began to shake. I do not think so. Then glass started breaking all over my plate. Sister tried to get up, she was afraid. The ground shook, there was noise everywhere …
scenes of tension are one of the hardest parts of a story to write. Children are often too basic and short. Why? Well, we say: "Write what you know", but children often do not very emotional experience "to imagine this kind of thing.
However, other people do – and their lyrics are all in dictionary or thesaurus.
Should Try this: Invite your child to highlight key words in the story – and then use a thesaurus to help the scene alive. You can actually do before writing this. Just ask: "What what will happen? and make a list for them to use.
example
pleasure – pleasure, enjoyment, fun, teasing, laughing, happy
Shake – Shiver, shiver, shake ground, quiver, buzz, tremors,
Break – crumble, disintegrate, collapse, crush, break
fear – Fear, afraid, scared, panicked
tremble quiver – shudder, beating, vibrating, grinding
The idea is not just substituting one word another. It is to give a greater variety of words / ideas and inspiration of the writer – and let their subconscious does the merger.
After:
The boy smiled as he placed a hot chocolate pudding right in front of me.
"You're not going to eat all that!" Said my father. "Here, I'll help you! He reached into his spoon, tease me. I took my plate away quickly. Everyone laughed.
"Just a little," Dad prayed.
I shook my head. It was strange, but there was a strange buzzing sound as if everything was not quite real. I lifted my spoon, my hands felt like they were shivering. Or was it really shakes the floor? It was not possible, but now all glasses have started to ring. Suddenly one fell, breaking the glass through my plate and dark chocolate. Then the noise hit me, hard, grinding, vibrating right into my brain …
Get the idea? See how the word "fun" has turned into something more specific – Teasing and dad stealing chocolate pudding. shake a "simple" triggered "chills" and a "buzz" in the head. Best all consider this last line, the words offered from "quaking" have made this incredibly evocative and powerful.
If you want to write rich, give children plenty of rich ingredients to work with.

I doubt anyone remembers this game OLD computer but if you please, tell me what it is that if your memory?
there was this old game that was before Windows XP or Vista or something … I mean he should be 10 years ago … and it was a game …. CD-ROM and when you've blocked, you have to type in a sort of code to start it, but basically there were different levels and at the bottom of the screen you typed what the character needs to do to get through. as the first level is a haunted house, I think, and then hit "enter the house" or "upstairs" and then if you saw someone you would like to "talk to anyone" or "pick up cup" I do not know. and then there was a level where you were in a jungle and you had to "swing across the vines, but you had to be careful b / c it finished Always you were stuck in voodoo witch hut and you could not get out. man, it was the best game ever. if someone remember this game please tell me the name of it! I loved it! please!
Sounds a bit like Day of the Tentacle. Can you elaborate? Characters, it was about, and anything? Sounds like that one either. or Kings Quest / Space Quest / game Monkey Island type.
