Capodimonte porcelain
Capodimonte porcelain, sometimes written or porcelain Capodimonte Capo di Monte, has been appointed to the location of plant Capodimonte in the Woods, near Naples. The Italian translated as "Head Mount" or "top of the mountain.
Capodimonte porcelain has evolved as another expression of the desire of European nobility for this material, first successfully copied the Chinese origin in the early eighteenth century Meissen in Saxony (now Germany). This hard porcelain need an abundant supply of kaolin, first discovered near Meissen, and more later near Sevres in France and around Fuscaldo and Paola in the Province of Catanzaro in Naples (Sicily).
As was the case outside Saxony, Capodimonte porcelain was originally soft-paste porcelain. The location of Capodimonte porcelain production moved throughout the 18th century following the history of European royalty weddings. Charles de Bourbon was the son of Philip V of Spain, but he ascended the throne Charles VII of Naples in 1734. Charles married the granddaughter of the Saxon King August II, under the patronage of the original Meissen porcelain were constructed. Charles had good reason to be inspired to produce porcelain Capodimonte on the island of Sicily, where he settled in Naples. Thus, porcelain Capodimonte entered production, thanks in part to the work of Giovanni Caselli and Livio Schepers, the king hired the Mint of Naples. The King instructed the well-known Capodimonte Mark.
As musical thrones would he, later, Charles succeeded to the throne of Spain became Charles III Spain. As part of the transition, Charles made sure that all aspects of Capodimonte porcelain production were transferred to a new plant Buen Retiro, near Madrid. All other aspects of Naples have been destroyed so diligently to leave no incentive for the imitators of perpetuating Sicilian production.
In another historical irony, the son of Charles, Ferdinand returned to Naples in 1759 Ferdinand IV, King of Naples. Sharing the passion of his china father, he built a new Capodimonte porcelain factory in the royal villa at Portici. The name Capodimonte porcelain became based in Italy.
Perhaps in a spirit of competitiveness, Ferdinand assembled master artisans who produce magnificent works as gifts for his father to return to Spain. extraordinary tableware were also presented to these other monarchs like George III of England in 1785.
At the end of the 18th century, Naples has shared the fate of most of Europe to come under the control of Napoleon Bonaparte. Despite the king's flight to other regions, Director Domenico Venuti tried to preserve the Capodimonte works in front of the French invasion. Alas, his efforts were unsuccessful.
With decrease the influence of Napoleon, Ferdinand was again able to return, making attempts to restore its ancient porcelain Capodimonte glory. However, in 1816, works in porcelain Capodimonte had declined to the point where the elements of production have been sold or otherwise dissipated. Most historians mark the point that the effective end of more than 60 years of making porcelain Capodimonte. masters such as tagliolini and others had created products sustainably famous during that period.
The name of Capodimonte porcelain, being so popular and associated with these major works, not surprisingly, was resurrected in subsequent years. Again following the European nobility closely related, Capodimonte is mainly marketed by a British company, stating that the work is still original Italian "… with major manufacturers of china Italian.
