Famous race horses – Part Two Best Mate

This article is the second of a two-part article that discusses the fantastic career Best Mate, probably one of the best ever National Hunt racehorses ever.

We recall that the first part of this article ended by looking for the best record of 14 wins Mate in 22 starts, and a special finishing seven seconds placed.

The Best time ever Mate did not finish first or second in a race was in his last race, and it was a sad occasion for everyone involved in horse racing.

Tragedy for Best Mate

Well, the 22nd race of his career is that I prefer to forget (with all the racing public magnet) as was the race where Best Mate had unfortunately died.

The only consolation is that he died doing something he loved, and he showed the courage of the horse.

He was known for having a big heart, to be generous and always a horse give 100 percent. The tragedy took place at Exeter Racecourse on 1 November 2005, during the course of the William Hill Haldon Gold Cup race.

Jockey Paul Carberry knew some of the way to the course that the horse was not quite right, and as a precautionary measure removed the horse up (removed the race). However, in the negotiation of a way out of the race track, Best Mate collapsed and if veterinarians were also beaten hard as they could to revive him, he died a few moments later.

A true star

But in the end he went for it and loved what he did best. It is a sad reality that we all have to go somewhere, but right at the end, he did what he does very well.

A measure of how much he is respected in the horse racing fraternity is the fact that he has a bronze statue of him at the racetrack Cheltenham, where his three years consecutive victories in the Gold Cup is an achievement that may never happen again in my life. It was also voted for Cheltenham 12 elite Hall of Fame, another distinction appropriate that this horse deserved for his achievements.

Indeed, his ashes are scattered at winning post on the racetrack as well, and were done at the request of the owner Jim Lewis. The ceremony took place December 10, 2005, even if the woman Lewis had not tragically died two days before, after a seven-month battle against cancer.

The legend lives

And if the legend lives on Best Mate, with his ashes and the situation statue as majestically as he did in winning post at Cheltenham. In fact, Best Mate has a brother who is still in progress.

It is called Cornish Rebel and right out of the mold Best Mate, a horse talent with a bright future ahead of him.
I never felt so attached to a horse, nor shocked to hear news of his death. But really was a great horse and his spirit will live long in the heart, although we will not see him through the race track again.

Write much on my interest in horses and some even call me a horse racing expert, but I really am a big fan of the sport and very passionate subject, so I'm not sure that classes me as an expert.

That leaves just me to give back Best Mate for yourself sharing with horse racing. It was not the same without you.

What is behind the agenda of the statue of a horseman? Is it true?

If a statue of a person in the park on a horse has both front legs in the air, the person died in battle. If the horse has one front leg in the air, the person died as a result of wounds received in battle If the horse has all four legs on the ground, the person died of natural causes.

A review of equestrian statues in most major European cities shows that this is not true. If it ever was true, the practice seems to have disappeared in the 19th century.
