The Excavation of You

How you roam these hills
and valleys-
and never know,
but a common kind of beauty
that occurrs in your eyes
and in the eyes of others-
I only wish I knew;
How your emptiness
spreads to other worlds when our eyes lock
and love demands,
but only storms and fires pass through.
But I have wandered into the realms of your reasons,
like an ancient cave,
and heard not even the passing stride;
only the stillness,
and the tapping of murky water
leading to somewhere,
to all of those years, uncried.

But I prayed for the day
we could roam together,
and attest to the beauty
of smiles; the chipped and weakened enamel
of time, and the mapped out lines
of laughter. When you turn to me
with your silvery glow and lead me to that
place in your cave;
rummage through the old lived days
and share with me your displays of youth,
long ago exhumed.
