Why do most people in the West are not aware that Buddhism has much violence in its history that all?

religion? There many books on the subject, such as "Buddha's Not Smiling" by Erik Curren (an ancient Tibetan Buddhist), "Zen at War" Brian Victoria (Soto Zen Priest), etc. Even without these books, it is easy to compare the fight against the monks of the Tibetan tradition, or the Buddhist Shaolin, or the fact that Zen monasteries in Japan during the Second World War helped to finance the war effort. Any institutionalized belief system can be used for violence and even hatred. Why is it largely ignored in the West? I am an atheist, and think highly of the true teachings of Buddhism, but I do not pretend that it is better in practice than any other religion.

Yes, these things happen in Buddhism. I think most Buddhists are honest enough to say that it is false. The teachings of the Buddha does not condone violence in any circumstance. This does not mean that I think people who are this are not real Buddhists, because no true Buddhist ® would do that. Because I think people who do these things are simply out of line. What they doing is wrong. In Sri Lanka, Buddhist fanatics stormed a radio station to listen to the music they deemed insulting to the Buddha, injuring several people. United States, a Tibetan lama was known for getting drunk and having sex with women in his Sangha. Another member of his knowingly infected with HIV Sangha. This is the dark side of Buddhism, and I do not deny it's there. When it rears its ugly head, I am also shocked everyone and a broken heart for those who were wounded that anyone can be. EDIT – I never said the violence was on an equal footing with other religions. What I said is that it exists. Claim that there not does not help Buddhism and Buddhists in general. Or attempt to mitigate it by saying it is not as bad as others. If you were a person who was knowingly infected with HIV by a professor of trust, it would certainly be worse than it could if you are not. No matter how you cut it, rape and riots are major issues. They are in fact crimes. In this case, they were crimes committed by Buddhists, and at least one case, on behalf of Buddhism.
