Beautiful Places To See In Leh

Leh is among the world’s most preferred tourist destinations which is located in the northernmost parts of India in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is situated in the lap of Himalayan ranges at a height of 3,505 meters above sea level. The snow covered fringes of Himalaya’s makes this place a romantic destination where tourists can enjoy serene and scenic beauty of nature along with the aura of Tibeto-Buddhist culture. The colorful gompas, snow covered mountains and the backdrop of azure sky makes this a picturesque place which attracts scores of tourists throughout the globe every year. Leh Palace:

It is the most captivating attraction of this place which is visited by almost every tourist. This architectural ruin attracts attention of tourists with its majestic setting at the edge of the Namgyal hill which dominates the town. The architectural design of this palace resembles the Potala in Lhasa. It was built in the 17th century as the residential complex for the King Singge Namgyal. This nine-storied architectural splendor is known for its Buddhist wall paintings, traditional tangkhas (painted or embroidered scrolls), frescos, murals, Buddhist scriptures and a massive statue of the Maitreya Buddha (future Buddha). The panoramic and impressive view of Leh from the rooftop of this palace is most captivating attraction of this place.

Sankar Gompa:

This belongs to the Gelukspa school of Tibetan Buddhism, a branch of the Spituk Monastery which was founded by the first incarnation of Skyabje Bakula (head monk of Spituk). It is the official residence of the Kushok Bakul Ladakh’s head of the Gelug-pa sect. This place is among the favored attractions of Leh Tourists because of its dramatic location and rich collections. Apart from this it is known for its paintings and murals of the guardian god of the Four Quarters of Heaven, golden spire and a ‘Dharma Chakra’ which is flanked by two deer as symbol of the Buddha’s first sermon in Sarnath. The most striking feature of this place is its gompa which is set up on high ceiling hall whose walls are adorned with lustrous multi-colored murals.

Stok Palace Museum:

This is the other most visited place of this region which is located about 14 kilometers away from Leh across the Choglamsar Bridge. It is the palace museum of Royal family which is known for its huge and rich collection of arts, ornaments of royal family, traditional clothes of kings and queen, royal crowns, copper coins, precious heirlooms, prayer instruments and many more. Among these the section of precious stones and jewellery collection are most fascinating and captivating part of this place.
