A story about the Chinese Yixing teapot – a real POTPOURRI TEA; COLLECTABLES

IAN BERSTEN is a man obsessed. His passion is particularly tea. He says he drinks more than half a liter per day. The scope of his passion is exposed for all to see at an exhibition at Elizabeth Bay House, entitled Taking tea.
Bersten believes he has one of the most comprehensive collections of eccentric and target = "_blank" title = "Yixing teapot"> teapots and para-teataking phernalia in the world.
The difference between his collection and other collections of serious things is that tea is not necessarily Bersten obsessed with quality, aesthetics and refinement. "You have learned to recognize my historical interest. I'm really interested in the technological evolution of the teapot, "he said.
Charting these developments led to buy weird and wonderful tea and other collectors, who may acquire it eagerly, as baluster say, a William IV silver in London with an inverted scalloped pedestal foot, or a teapot painted Meissen porcelain, do not touch with spoon straw.
One of the jewels that Bersten owner is a teapot Australian shearers rudely but strongly built galvanized iron-Sees. This hard-working, potty practice is about 37.5 inches high. The interior is a long cylinder, drilled with holes the size of a fingernail or roof to hold the leaves. He bought it three years ago at the Antique Fair at the Sydney Exhibition.
At the other end of the spectrum is a rare 19th century Chinese teapot in the form of two small drums separated by a vertical wall perforated. This style of pot has been developed in the province of China Shing Hsi.
Whoever Bersten on display is made from a fine, chocolate brown with a ceramic finish mate. He is proud to say that he owns three of the bribes the tea museum in Hong Kong does not even own one.
The paradox of his collection that, while he has always sought to eccentric teapots in an attempt to cata-logue innovations tea, teapots more change, more they remain the same.
This, he explains, because the preparation of tea is an essentially simple. "The fundamental principle is that you put your tea leaves in a saucepan and pour boiling water over them, "he said.
"And because it's basically like now satisfactory because it was in the 18th century, I could take one of these pots DIS play and show them to a tea drinker in London in 1705 and it would be able to identify like a teapot. There has been no major innovation that has stuck. "
To demonstrate the consistency of this principle, he crooks his little finger in the handle of the pan and balance in the air. "You notice that when I hold it as the pot drops vertically, with the beak down? The reason is that the leaves fall to the bottom and when you pour the tea, the pot is designed to allow the sheets slide the bottom of the pan that water still flows upon them and captured the flavor. "
This basic concept has not stopped tinkering with the leaders of improvements and innovations to try, not to mention using all sorts of different materials, the finest porcelain with tin alloys (commonly known as Britannia metal) glass.
Slight modifications and embellishments are the heart of the collection Bersten. For example, there is the Cadogan teapot, the name of Lord Cadogan which is actually filled from the bottom and has a tube which offers tea brewed on the spout when the pot is turned in the right direction.
Bersten shows me a variation on the theme designed by David Lindo, who discovered in 1881 that tea was poured and found that the strainer should be located at the bottom of the pan. Its design follows seems decidedly odd to modern eyes accustomed to the filter at the base of the beak.
When I ask why innovation has Lindo not taken, Bersten said it did not design a market advantage. But it has inspired another commercial development.
"If you can make novelty to the table so that everyone can see, then you can sell, "he said.
The new design builds on Lindo auto shows Royle Patent Pourer 1886. This pot has a pump built into the lid so instead of pouring the tea, you pumped. The Royle actually sell in large numbers.
Another gem is SYP, or simple yet perfect, target = "_blank" title = "Yixing teapot" teapot> which also has a connection aristocratic. It was developed by the Earl of Dundonald. In the SYP, the tea is infused with the pot on his back. You put the tea in a compartment, pour in water, put a lid on which the sealed section, and let infuse. When you're ready to pour the tea, you put it at its base, trapping the tea leaves in the top.
Bersten has not paid a fortune for his pots, but he was prepared to travel extensively in pursuit of the single. When he is in Europe, flea market weekend itinerary may cover Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Germany and France.
He says he can not drive through a city in the country and do not stop to browse antique shops and opportunity. Now, it's an obsession.

Any chance I found shards of ancient pottery real Greek?

I went to Greece, like 6 years ago. we went Athens, Delphi, Olympia, Santorini and Naxos. I have three pieces of pottery that I have found at least one, I think the temple Zeus in Athens. they are the size of coins, two of them were painted black and the most important thing is red. a black one is 1 / 4 inch think, it is 3 / 16 inches, and red is 1 / 4 inches, but progressivly closer. Ive seen pictures of Greek pottery, the wear of the paint looks fine. not these sound like authenic ancient Greek pottery, and how rare or common is it to find them.
