Chinese antique lamps in cinnabar

The long history of Chinese culture has produced a large number of original and distinctive art styles. One these "Cinnabar Lacquer. Quickly recognized by its distinctive red color and sometimes referred to as "Red China". This treatment has been used Art in China for over 1000 years.

Lacquer refers to a facade that has been coated with lacquer, resulting in a hard surface and sustainable. The natural source of the lacquer is a tree, lake, or varnish tree whose sap is collected in the same way that the sap of rubber trees; small cuts made in the trunk of the tree and the sap collected. The name "Cinnabar", however, is derived from a natural mineral pigment red is mixed with tree sap lake after which a rich red lacquer is produced

The first step in the production of cinnabar lacquer begins with the first coat of red lacquer, this first layer can be the first of hundreds of layers to follow! Each layer is given time to dry before the next, until the desired thickness is reached red lacquer.

Chinese percussion instruments – wooden blocks – What are they called?

I have a pair of rectangular blocks of wood about 22 x 4 x 3 cm. the upper surface is convex and concave bottom. I think they are hollow and make a nice sound when operated slightly against each others. These are almost black, very shiny and some Chinese characters Vertical – Does anyone know what they might be called?

Zhuban are two layers of bamboo (16cm-19cm by 8 cm by 7 cm 1 cm in diameter) attached together with the convex sides facing each other. The player holds a plate and turns his wrist. The plate lets go on strike against the bottom of the plate more. However, the player would vigorously turn wrist to cause the plate to hit against one up and then down the other in succession. The Zhuban is a former percussion instrument without fixed pitch. It originated in the later Song Dynasty (960-1279) to tell a story. It is still very popular today in popular entertainment.
