Antique Table Lamp Lighting – a Berlin Lamp C1840

A recent addition to the Antique and Vintage Table Lamp Co’s site is a German, Berlin lamp made in circa 1840, the lamp shape known as “Campana”, from the Italian, meaning “bell-shaped”.

The lamp is enamelled in an unusual chocolate ground colour and finely painted in bright colours with a large, loose bouquet of summer flowers. The lamp, with moulded and applied Satyr head handles and standing on a square based plinth, is fitted with a custom made bronze, gold plated cap.

The Berlin porcelain factory was started in 1751 and after a range of misfortunes was purchased in 1763 by Frederick, the King of Prussia.

From this time on the factory was known as the Royal Porcelain Manufactory. The factory flourished throughout the 18th and 19th centuries until 1944 when allied bombing destroyed it, after which production was moved to the city of Selb.

During the period 1955-1957, the whole production was then moved back to Berlin, where today, this factory produces some of the finest porcelain in Europe.

Can anyone translate this Chinese writing? (Stamp bronze)?

I bought a Chinese ancient bronze bells recently and I'm really interested to know what the patch actually said – any help would be great. Yes, it is Chinese. An old form, as longlive said … it is written in what looks like a sort of Seal Script. (Incidentally, it seems that you left lying on its side. P = rotate clockwise once.) Moreover, as longlive said was a sort of poor quality – The ink was somewhat uneven on the stamp, so there are some missing details in the mark, and that half dark spots characters. I think it could help a lot if you have a better mark and after that … the place, too. = P Anyway, here's what I can do (not much, sorry). Seal Script is really old, and Chinese writing has evolved over thousands of years. It is mainly used today for stylistic reasons, as in stamps. Most modern Chinese speakers can not read Seal Script, outside of calligraphers. And there is much variation. ^ _ ^ So it would be a little difficult to get an answer here. It might be helpful if someone could post your question to answer you on the site in Chinese (I can not, my Chinese is terrible). * Sigh * My great-uncle is a calligrapher. Too bad I've never heard of him. It is also unfortunate that I never learned Chinese well. Nevertheless, with various tools, including a dictionary, EMI and Microsoft database wonderful Chinese etymology, I including possible candidates for three characters.
