Lamps antiques – Rare Remarkably Minton Lamps

In 1793, Thomas Minton, now a master potter who just finished his apprenticeship with Josiah Spode as an engraver, opened his small pottery in Staffordshire, in Stoke-on-Trent, in the heart of the English ceramic industry. This modest beginning was transformed into a manufacturing ceramic with a major international reputation.

Everyone knows the famous "Willow" pattern, but did you know that Thomas Minton is regarded as the first who engraved this well-known print! Minton said he is was inspired by hearing the old Chinese legend of the young daughter of rich mandarin eloping with his secretary. As the diagram shows, the young lovers are pursued by the angry father, however, the goddess of mercy, since the tragedy, the couple is transformed by fleeing the swallows flying together.

Thomas Minton's son, Herbert (1793-1858), succeeded his father as head of the company and owed its development and reputation as a leader in porcelain production.

In the 1820s he began producing porcelain. This early Minton is considered as comparable to French Sèvres, by which she was greatly influenced.

Our lamps have been made Minton shown in 1863 and are typical of the high standards reached by this time.

In a private correspondence with Wedgwood UK / Minton Museum, this

pair of lamps have been described as "very important".

The form was described by Minton in the London International Exhibition 1862, where they were described as "a pair of vases, celadon-glazed ground, swags White cord, neck perforated and perforated foot.

The shape vase was recorded in 1863 that "in the Chinese style".

Need help identifying a type of porcelain?

I was in an antique shop and found a pretty pink and white vase. It looks like it is porcelain and it is the same model as those China Chinese blue and white. Can anyone please tell me the name of This pink and white version? I want to buy more, but I have trouble finding any. : / Thanks!

Denisa, this is the response not so sure China Travel that would be the best place to ask your question. Check your local library for books on porcelain or ask the owner of an antique shop they know. Or ask around if there are clubs antique vase in your area. There's always Google Images.
