Leh Ladakh Tourism begins with a visit to Leh

Many Buddhist monuments, monasteries and centers of study – Leh, the land of lamas (monks Buddhists), is the capital of Ladakh desert of snow. The picturesque town is nestled in the Karakoram and Himalayan ranges. valley of Leh, is that attracts tourists from around the world for the incredible scenery alongside the River Indus. The city, at 3505 m altitude, is dotted with some number of ancient Buddhist monuments, which still retain the age old traditions and Buddhist practices.

Major Attractions

Besides the fascinating landscapes of the Himalayas, Leh is visited monuments and sites different culturally rich. Shanti Stupa is the foreground. He holds major importance to Buddhists about their age rituals and traditions. It also provides an overview of the entire valley. Few other attractions in Leh are:

Stok Gompa (built in the 14th century, a subsidiary of Spituk Monastery; displays masks, murals, paintings, 108 volumes of Buddha's teachings and other ancient Buddhist items)

Sankar Gompa (paintings and murals tutelary god of the four quarters of heaven, the wheel of life, the Old Man of longevity, Buddha Sakyamuni with 16 midwives and 35 Buddhas benevolent)
Leh Palace (built in the 17th century, houses the Office of Archaeology Conservation Government of India)
Shey Monastery (12m Shakyamuni Buddha statue in gilded copper, also has a small library and a collection of tangkhas)
Thiksey Monastery (best area around Leh for a puja, art exhibits excellent books and offers a panoramic view of the Zanskar range in the background)
Hemis Monastery (Gompa, the largest in terms of spiritual hierarchy, the festival welcomes Hemis – characterized by the masked dance)

Excursions

Khardung Pass (the highest mountain passes of Ladakh), Pangong Tso (largest brackish lake in Asia), Tso Morari (Mountain Lake), etc are some places that are located in close proximity to Leh and are very popular with tourists.

Play a journey through the streets of Leh market. Here you will find various clothing winter wool carpets and decorated world-renowned. For women, the beads turquoise, coral, malachite, lapis lazuli and many other kinds of semi-precious stones and jewelry is the best buy in Leh. Apart from that, curiously carved Yak-Horn boxes, locks brass picturesque, China or metal bowls, etc. are also available at reasonable prices. The best time to be there is between the months of June and September.
