When Romulus Augustus was appointed emperor of the Western Roman Empire, it was still just a kid and things were not looking good for Rome. By some considered to be the last true emperor of Western Rome, sources say he was emperor for 10 months and, because of his young age, was a puppet of his father's patrician Orestes after leading a coup against the former Chief Julius Nepos. The tumultuous and short history of Augustus is well known but there is little to be found in the primary sources of the time causing a range of speculation and, possibly, the fantastic story of magic.

By 475AD the year, the Roman Empire was declined to take into account only the regions of Italy and southern Gaul and Dalmatia. I tried to do genealogical research recently. Interestingly, I discovered today that I am descended from Henry II of England. However, I also saw a website that gives think I might be descended from a Roman emperor, as well. I do not really see how this can be, however, because the genealogical records were not been maintained in ancient Rome the way they have been maintained in the European nobility and royalty in the Middle Ages. I can understand why there would not bind my family records in medieval English royalty, but I can not imagine there would be issues connecting my family Roman emperors.
