Each house needs of the Foundation plants – usually a combination of evergreens, deciduous shrubs and small trees. providing evergreen all year color and a beautiful backdrop for more seasonal plantings. For some in the shade and persistent problems deer, looking for foliage persistent low-growing can be very difficult. This week, we're with the one who will solve this problem – a form of increasingly weak Japanese Plum Yew – harringtonia Cephalotaxus 'prostrata'.

Won most of your garden

While Cephalotaxus is a regular tree, the prostrate form the Plum Yew is the winner of both the Georgia and Pennsylvania Horticultural Society gold medals, mainly because of its compact treatment. Because demand always exceeds supply and because prostrate Cephalotaxus is difficult to propagate and slow growing, it is still rare and difficult to find. We are delighted to offer our customers this coming spring.

Native to Japan, Korea and eastern China, prostrate Plum Yew foliage persistent slow growth prefers light to moderate shade and is extremely resistant to deer. (Do not confuse with regular yews that deer love and can not be grown south of Zone 7). It matures to about three feet high and four to five feet wide. Prostrate Plum yew is a slow growing (about four inches per year) and should require little pruning – even if it can be easily cut in early spring before growth begins. All year round, Cephalotaxus has glossy, deep green needles borne on slightly arching branches, which give a graceful appearance.

Cephalotaxus rise in full sun, although the needle color will be lighter green. Like many evergreens, the wind cold of winter and the strong winter sun tanning causes temporary leaves. Its texture and neat habit make a grouping the focal point in your gardens, especially at the edge of a wood, surrounding a patio, along a sidewalk or in a foundation planting.

Planting and maintenance

Plant in compost-enriched, moisture retention, soil well drained. Good drainage is important.
Once established, Cephalotaxus is tolerant to drought altogether.
The space of five feet apart
Fertilize with a cotton meal and kelp meal in early spring and late fall
Hardy in zones 6-9

How long does it take a plum tree to bear fruit?

Last year I bought a plum tree nursery Nubian Local. It is now about 5 feet and is in full bloom some really nice flowers everywhere. I tried searching for the plant, but I 'm not finding much information on the plums Nubia. My question is how long does it take for me to see the plums on the tree? This year, or in a couple years? The tree is still thin and I am assuming that this year was wondering when.

Once your plum blossoms can get some plums, but they need to be 2 – 3 years old to be really productive.
