The return of the mortise lock
It was once the lock mortise lock was the standard choice for homes and companies. After the invention of the lock cylinder is bored by Walter Schlage in the early 1900s, the mortise lock gradually started to fall into disgrace with the manufacturers. After all, the bored cylindrical lock was easier to install and safe condition proper handling and cons of break-ins.
Today, however, target = "_blank" title = "Mortise"> mortise made a comeback. They first began to reappear in a significant number of high-end homes in the middle in the late 1990s. They continued to gain popularity in the new millennium. In fact, it's not just homebuilders top range that are installed. Mortise locks are installed on the average commuter enough new homes today.
Although annoyed Cylindrical locks Mortise locks still Outsell, manufacturers are choosing more modern mortise locks because they provide better security. They also add an extra measure of strength because of their design and construction.
mortise locks consists of four elements main body of the lock, pad lock, a latch or a box store, and the key cylinder. This type of lock is named because the body the lock is installed inside a groove "or cavity inside the door. The strike / box tower is integrated into the door jamb in front of the lock body. Because these components are recessed into the wooden door and frame, they are much more difficult to manipulate a lock cylinder bored. The result is a locking mechanism that is difficult to take and even harder to break with human strength.
Mortise locks are also gaining in popularity more widespread because of their aesthetics. They offer a unique look with a touch of nostalgia. They tend to be favored by builders and owners a taste for fine quality and detail.
The main disadvantage of using mortise locks is that they are more complicated to install. If a do-it-yourself beginner may be able to easily install a lock cylinder is bored, he may find the frustration of trying to install a mortise lock. This is because it takes a certain degree of knowledge of wood to do so.
Installation of a mortise lock requires precision measuring and cutting in addition to knowledge basic nuts and bolts work. Errors in the cut, as the creation of a cavity is too deep, high or large can lead to poor performance of the lock, or simply not able to install it at all. Of course, errors are cut very difficult to repair, and even the repair work on the most professional yet lead to a weakening of the structure of the door. It is generally recommended that the mortise be professionally installed. The lock will be stronger and last longer when they are installed correctly.
It is the complex nature of the mortise lock that led Walter Schlage invent the design improvements bored cylindrical lock. Schlage Lock has won the recognition and object, use the mortise lock, especially on new homes built after the 1940s, began to decline. Builders favor the ease of bored cylindrical lock.
Companies such as title = "Schlage locks" Schlage> that manufacture and two mortises bored cylindrical locks have made design improvements over these two types over time. Thank you to modern technology, mortise locks are easier to install than in the past. This, with their unstoppable force has given them a full rotation as viable components for home and business security.
