How to identify and select a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt

Black Belts are knowledgeable and highly skilled in the use of Lean Six Sigma methodologies and tools, and facilitating change management, lead and subject matter experts to increase levels Customer satisfaction and business productivity.

Black Belts have typically completed four weeks or 160 hours of training Lean Six Sigma and have demonstrated mastery of the object by the completion of the project (s) (usually a minimum of two projects) and examination (usually a Pass 80%). Black Belts and Green Belts coach to receive advice and support from Master Black Belts. It is generally anticipated that a black belt will enter a black belt or the significant role of business after the sale is complete black belt in 18 months to three years.

Black Six Sigma Belt Qualities

What should you look for in your black belt? Here's my personal top ten list. Note that I list bullets instead of numbers. This was done intentionally, as a numbered list generally indicates that a point can be more valuable than another. Changing the organization and how business is done may disturb employees. Change agents and change leaders have a way to accomplish positive change while generating support for change.

Communication – Black Belts are effective communicators, which is essential for the many roles they serve (trainers, coaches, and mentors). Black Belts should be able to speak understandable to all audiences (staff to management workshop Executive). Understanding the different needs of the audience and tailoring the message to address their concerns is the mark of a communicator efficient. Fun – Black Belts should enjoy their jobs if they are passionate about their subject. Having fun, you encourage others to do likewise.

Qualities that did not make the Top Ten (but important)

Trust and integrity – these are the requirements and are not negotiable.

Deep knowledge processes – Lean Six Sigma means having a team of specialists in the field of work to eliminate deficiencies and improve a process. Obviously, someone on the team should have a thorough knowledge of the study process. This should not be a black belt, but it can be.

Been There – Done That – Sometimes, a team lends credibility to a belt Black has "been there." When the team is formed, which can help accelerate the acceptance of black belt, but it is not a requirement.

Salt Lean, Six Sigma, ISO, TQM, etc – Remember, you build your leadership pipeline Black Belt Business One at a time. Having a specific and a detailed knowledge of Lean Six Sigma is not a precondition – they go through training, a list of the top ten qualities belt Black (listed above) is.

Other Work Experience – This will allow the black belt to appreciate more than just one aspect of a Process Improvement Project. If you hire a black belt in relation to the selection and developing on the inside, I'd say the following attributes are most critical in choosing the right candidate.

Facilitation Team – Building a strong team and consistent with the development tools, resources, training, objectives, performance measures and a flexible interpersonal style. Capacity to facilitate completion of team goals.

Problem Solving – Identifying current and potential situations difficult and their causes. Studying at a level that shows the total impact of the situation. Identify trends and patterns and develop measures to solve or prevent recurrence.

Process orientation – Ability to understand customer requirements, define and understand the process and their effectiveness, efficiency and adaptability. Black Belts have the ability to take a systematic view of activities in a broad perspective. Expert in Process Analysis and establish a vision for the optimization.

Change Facilitation – encouraging people to seek opportunities to adopt approaches various innovative and solve the problems and opportunities. Facilitate the implementation and acceptance of change within the workplace.

Ability to communicate – transmit or absorb information and ideas through a variety of media to individuals or groups of way that engages an audience and helps them understand and retain the message.

Computer Skills – understands and uses the basic office tools available on a personal computer. Can do basic word processing, spreadsheets, e-mails, presentations and web browsing.

Programme and project management – Identify customers, deliverables, project scope, schedule and resources. Black Belts are trained in the removal of barriers, while that make decisions that keep the team focused on meeting quality, costs and objectives of the news.

Analyze the costs and ROI – Methods of Use and cost analysis procedures to determine the allocation of resources and evaluate alternatives in the shop and offices. Black Belts use established principles and practices, collect data, interpret information, and explain the instability and risks of investment.
