Fun Facts about Buddhism

In various schools of Mahayana ("Greater Vehicle") Buddhism (including Tibetan Buddhism, Chinese Ch'an and Japanese Zen, etc.) most of the Buddhas mentioned below are recognized. Theravada (or Hinayana, "the lesser vehicle Buddhism ~ Sri Lanka, Thailand and Burma) Buddhism recognizes that Sakyamuni (and perhaps Maitreya and others) and so will be called Sakyamuni Amoghashiddi (Or Sakyamuni) with hands in Abhaya Mudra, etc., rather than Amoghashiddhi. Buddhism in Nepal has a tendency to mix and to recognize both Buddhas and Hindu deities.

Who are the five Dhyani Buddhas?

The five Dhyani Buddhas are celestial Buddhas visualized during meditation, and considered high-healers of the soul and spirit. They are not historical figures, like Gautama (Sakyamuni) Buddha, but transcendent beings who symbolize universal divine principles or forces.

(1) Akshobhya

Akshobhya is considered the second Dhyana Buddha by Buddhist Nepal. It comes from the blue syllable HUM. It sits in the pose and Vajraparyanka his right hand is in the bhumisparsha (Earth-touching) mudra, calling the earth to witness (Sakyamuni generally adopts the same pose). It represents the primordial cosmic element of Vijnana (consciousness). His left hand rests on his knees, while the right rests on his right knee with the tips of middle fingers touching the ground with the palm facing inwards. His vehicle is a pair of elephants, and Its symbol is the vajra (thunderbolt). His female counterpart is Locana.

(2) of the Buddha Amitabha (Amida Jap.)

Amitabha Buddha is the oldest one Dhyani Buddhas them. He is said to reside in the sky Sukhabati in peaceful meditation. It is red, from the red syllable HRIH. It represents the element cosmic Sanjna (name). His vehicle is a peacock. He is sitting in the lotus position, right leg on the left, with his palms folded face, right above the left on his knees in Samadhi Mudra. His female counterpart is Pandara. Amitabha means "infinite light" or incomprehensible.

(3) Buddha Amoghashiddhi

Amoghashiddhi is the fifth Dhyani Buddha. He is sitting in the lotus position, left leg up on the right, with his open hand, palm up, on his knees, and the right to Abhaya Mudra. It represents the cosmic element of Samskara (conformation). Its color is green and its symbol is Viswa Vajra or thunderbolt fold. He is the embodiment of the rainy season. His vehicle is Garuda.

(4) Buddha Ratna Sambhav

Ratna Sambhav is considered the third Dhyani Buddha. Its symbol is the jewel and his hands are in the Varada (gift-giving) mudra. It represents the cosmic element Vedana of (feeling). Its color is yellow. His female counterpart is Mamaki.

(5) Buddha Dainichi (Japanese Dainichi Nyorai)

Vairochana is considered as the first Dhyani Buddha by the Buddhists of Nepal. It represents the cosmic element of Rupa (form). Its color is white, and his hands are placed on the chest with the tips of the thumbs and forefingers United in the Dharmachakra (Preaching) Mudra. His female counterpart is Vajradhatviswari.

What Buddha Bhaisajya? (Jap. Yakushi Nyorai)

Bhaisajya (known as medicine or healing Buddha) is said to dispense spiritual medicine when darling. He wears a monastic robe and is seated with legs crossed. His left hand, lying on his lap in meditation mudra, usually holds a medicine bowl, while the right hand in the mudra of charity, is holding a branch with fruit, or fruit alone myrobalam of medicinal plant found in India.

Hotei What is? (Also known as Budai, or Laughing Buddha)

The Japanese name for Chinese Zen Master Hoshang Poe-Tai (10th-11th century). Fat, grotesque and lovely, it symbolizes the state of individual happiness belongs to those who realize the nature of Buddha or the Buddha inside. He is loved worldwide and loved by many as the God of Good Fortune (he is also seen by some as a form of Maitreya).

What the Buddha Sakyamuni?

Gautama Buddha is believed to have had 550 incarnations. To distinguish it from all other Buddhas, he is known as Sakyamuni (sage of the Sakya clan). He was born in 563 BC in Lumbini, Nepal, the Suddhodana son of King and Queen Maya Devi. He achieved enlightenment after six years of meditation and fasting. He died aged 80 in Kushinagara. Usually depicted seated in padmasana (lotus posture) with his right hand in bhumisparsha (Earth-touching) mudra. Sometimes showed up with the right hand in Abhaya (Protection) mudra.

In addition to the historical Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama, Buddhism has a mythological dimension that incorporates a range of other Buddhas with their own specific qualities. Some of the most eminent Aksobhya (Akshobhya) "Aksobhya" – which means "building" or "unperturbed" – is the name given to a Buddha is said to reside in paradise is Abhirati. According to legend, when he was a bodhisattva he vowed never to give in to anger. In painting, however, it is represented, somewhat paradoxically, as a wrathful form blue-skinned, a vajra or diamond in one hand and touching the earth with his other. Often it is represented riding a blue elephant. Amitabha (Amida, Amida) Amitabha "Buddha Unlimited Light 'which is said to preside over the paradise of the West known Sukhavati known. To be born into the Pure Land, the believer must have a sincere desire to be reborn and must invoke Amitabha's name ten times. Amitabha has a special meaning for the Pure Land. It Bhaisajyaguru "The Buddha of Healing" and "Medicine Buddha and is presumed to have a number of beneficial powers to those who call on him. This including healing, long life, wealth, and protection of the state. In Buddhist art the skin is gold or blue and one hand he holds a medicine bowl symbolic role. Sakyamuni (Shakyamuni) is the name given to the historical Buddha and Sage by Sakya, Sakya clan be that the Buddha was born. In the Lotus Sutra, however, Sakyamuni is represented as a figure more supernatural proclaimed that he attained enlightenment millennia ago. The historical Buddha is regarded as one of a number of projections of Sakyamuni appeared in the world to lead beings to enlightenment. Dainichi "Dainichi" means "shining one or" Shining Out "and represents the transcendent truth or Dharma Buddhist message.
